Livewire Special Events and News ArchiveThe brains and brawn of Auckland descended upon the Waipuna Hotel and conference centre on September 30. John Hawkesby kept everyone entertained as our MC as each team battled wits against each other in a fantastic night of serious hilarity. Each corporate table was helped by celebrities which included Kyle Mills, Kay Gregory, Inga Tuigamala, Sara Wiseman, Jon Bridges, Neil Waka, Hamish Marshall, Danny Morrison, Ewen Gilmour, Eroni Clarke, Dean Lonergan, Kathryn Harby Williams and Clinton Toopi. The night was won by the 'Crazy Medics' representing the Medical Assurance Society. They had drawn the mayor of Waitakere and his wife as their celebrities, and Bob and Barbara Harvey delightfully credited their team as being the smartest bunch they'd come across in their travels. Former All Black Michael Jones delightedly handed a cheque for $30,000 to Craig and Sandra, the parents of Zach Palmer, the beneficiary of every cent paid by the 30 teams to take part. A fantastic night, and thanks to everyone who got behind such a wonderful cause. We would like to do this on an annual basis, so if you know of a worthy cause which we can get behind in 2006, please drop us a line. |

The 6th annual NZ Champion's quiz was staged at the Horse & Trap pub in Auckland on Sunday October 16. We welcomed 30 teams from throughout the country, from as far afield as Nelson. The battle for bragging rights and a swag of prizes thanks to Bulmer's Original Cider was a close affair right up until the final round. The winning team with a clear 5 point winning margin was Eddie M'Bubu of Murphy's Law Irish Pub in Petone. Congratulations on a fantastic effort, and we look forward to them defending their title on Sunday October 15, 2006 in Auckland once again.
